More chat channels per room
Seeing that there are a lot of russian and spanish/portuguese speaking players out there who don't speak or are not willing to speak english, I think we should introduce 3 chat channels per official room, one dedicated for English, one for Russian and one for the languages off the Iberian Peninsula. The installer could ask the player during the installation what's his primary language, and set the game to switch to that channel if possible (or it could be set later in the options menu). Ofc, the player could switch between channels just like he does now between the main chat and the whisper windows.
Anyone support this?
The point is that if 3 Russian guys come into a room, all you can see is cyrillic and it's disturbing. Let them have a place where they can speak Russian without disturbing the international room.
To the second post, like I said, there'd be an option to switch channels while you are in the room.

If seeing another language really bothers you, I'm sure there is an /opt chat 0 or something. That, and you can find another server, there's more than plenty around.

Again, missing the point. Intelligent people tend to have discussions. Now there are a few of those who like to speak to each other while waiting for their turn to play. That discussion is hard to follow if you are having it in a chat window where some guys burst in and start speaking in their own language. Now I'm not against Russians or anyone else, but let them have a place where they can talk in their own language without disturbing the others. Said language channels would be justified by the number of Russian and Spanish/Portuguese speaking players.
Before you say "but you can whisper" no, I can't whisper in a way that resembles the main chat.

Not really. English isn't my native either, but I speak it because it's the language most people understand, hence it is the closest thing to an international language we have these days.

If it's an official server, it's public. If it's public, it's public to EVERYONE.

HURR. Yes, it's public to everyone, and it should stay that way.
Please read what has been said before and you'll see that we are talking about something different.
I think having the ability to create/join chatrooms like servers would be a better way to do this. Just type /jc nameofroom to join chats like an in-game version of irc.
If you are going to do a channel for each language, you have to make... 5-6 channels at least (if you want to cover the most common on toribash ones), that would be a lot and not really fun. I suggest you accepting other languages on your screen too; you can even learn something and make the chat more interesting (for example, I learnt some russian).
