Perspective:

Obviously not perfectly accurate and doesn't represent everyone, but you could solve that problem if you draw another circle called "terrible people" and then put this diagram inside it.
Some people just want to play the game and have fun. This is completely reasonable and appreciated. Instead of coveting they admire. They don't try to humiliate people if they have a problem with them. You don't notice them because they don't draw attention to themselves. Some of them have more than what they want.
Then you have people that take it seriously. They enjoy the competition. They know how to get what they want. Some of them want more than they have, but they don't want everything for free because it wouldn't be a challenge. Cheating doesn't satisfy them.
Some people want to go as far as they can even if it means they have to put time and effort into it. This has become more and more rare, despite how much easier it has become to obtain wealth.
Some people will settle for less. They'd like the stuff but not so much that they'd spend money on it or cheat for it.
Last of all you have a minority that want to get as much as they can with the least amount of effort. They want to push the limits. If the highest they can go is the top of a cliff, they go there anyway. If they fall off, they blame the cliff for being steep and then blame the moderators for being at the bottom of it. They have no patience or discipline. Time and effort is too much to ask for. The only time they consider other people is when they're looking for a scapegoat. They think things are unfair if they're not easy. If this is you then you probably can't tell the difference between a rule and a moderator, or you can tell the difference but despise them equally anyway.

What tends to be the case is you'll get a moderator doing work and helping people, but none of it is seen because moderators don't brag about all the time and effort they put into the community. Then on the odd occasion someone sees a moderator screw up, but instead of telling the moderator about the problem, they tell the whole world and try to humiliate the moderator in ways that are seldom funny.
Sure moderators make mistakes, but you don't need to be afraid of that because we try to fix them. Though after reading everything you posted, I can't help but get the impression that you're just another guy who has the wrong attitude. More interested in fear than respect. The sort of mindset where you think you won't fall off a cliff because the cliff is afraid of you.
Most people don't even bother to read the rules and it's not actually a problem when people have common sense. Though for the people that do need rules and don't like rules, they seem to be bad at identifying problems, even if there is something that could be improved whether it's moderators or rules.
