I think that it would be fair, and it would make everybody happy, if toribash bought al these items back from the users for at least 25%-50% of they're shop value. This will stop everybody from complaining and it would be make people more at ease with this change.
At least this is what i think it would be fair, to give back to the comunity, not just take things away.
