I do agree with Gorman, though. There could have been previous altercations with it being his wife's fault. If Ray Rice indeed going through abuse, I still don't think it would be a good enough reason to knock her out cold. Ray Rice is more than capable of defending himself and I don't see why he couldn't have handled the situation better. He wasn't in a dangerous situation at all. Sure, his wife is stupid for attacking him like that, but Rice isn't any smarter handling it the way he did.

technically the knock out was accidental. she was only knocked out due to her charge into his fist combined with his punch, the punch alone wouldn't have done anything but since she jumped into it it adds her mass + speed of her + speed of fist. if this was a male being hit nothing would've been mentioned, yes he's a football player but if it was a male with the body/mass similar to that of a female being hit it wouldn't be included.

Spitting on someone is an assault in Canada and America. Like, seriously, it's beyond disrespectful, it's disgusting and says a lot about the person spitting and is something to get punched over and I've seen it not than once. No one likes to be spat on.

That's fear of injury enough, also spitting is the most explicit taunt you can do to someone. How do you not expect a retalitation of some form. Looking for a retaliation or doing such actions causing such retaliations will eventually go against you in court.
