They are not the same. Racism is a form of prejudice, but so is never trying a type of food because it looks funny. Also, please stop replying to ZENBOY he isn't worth it.

All forms of racism are prejudice... Although it is a debatable matter it is only debated otherwise by racists themselves who believe they are right.
If I was to say that black people commit more crime in America then (although I haven't checked whether it is still a legit statistic) I am referring to a fact. This isn't racism and neither is it prejudice. Racism would be saying that black people commit more crime because they are genetically inferior. Prejudice would be assuming that almost all black people commit crime, but this isn't necessary racist because you might believe that this is because of societies cultural oppression of minorities leading to poverty in aforementioned minorities and concluding that this leads to crime.

Neither of your examples are popularly viewed as racism. Racism is telling a black employee that you are going to pay him less specifically because you think black people are inferior this is luckily very rare now adays but the KKK still exists and racism is real.
