I only know from what I've learnt from warring.
Basically every war has a score system and you can see the score(points) each clan gets on the war page (scroll down quite a bit).
Normally if any clan is solo the max points you can get is 4 for winning.
If more members have a fight in the war from both clans the point reward becomes higher.
If more matches are played the points become a little higher as well but I've only seen it happen on wars were both sides have more than 1 member fighting.
The losing clan can get from 1 point (losing all matches or just 1) but if it's a close win then the points can be like "win 4 / 3 lose" thats why even if you lose, you still need to have won a few matches to get some decent points.
And this points all get added to your clan, and then toribash ranks the clans with the total amount of points they have, higher points = higher rank.
I wish they had a thread explaining the war system though.
