Robot fighting as a new sport
So earlier this week, an American company called MegaBots INC challenged Japan to a fight to the death... of each country's custom built super robot.

Watch the two videos below before actually posting.

Japans response

What do you people think of this? Does it have a future in sports, is it too expensive, or is the technology not there yet?
I reckon nobody would be excited to watch this if they move slow as hell.

It's definitely an interesting concept. I'll give them that. But it seems too restricted to the public in terms of cost. Not everyone can participate, and not everybody has a giant ass military robot. Is still pretty cool though.
Also, "Just building something and sticking guns on it is super american" is the greatest thing I've ever heard.

Seems like a bit of fun, I see no downside to this, even though it won't appeal to people like classic sports. Nothing's cooler than rockemsockem robots, don't get me wrong. But the hype gained from seeing your favourite soccer team out on the green just won't be there IMO.

Ah, this sounds interesting. This would be an amazing event. But I don't think it would qualify as a sport.

Definition of Sport is:
"an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment."

There is no actual physical exertion when sitting in a big metal suit.

Robot fighting is already a thing with smaller robots. But, ones that actually contain humans and are fighting other robots with humans inside. This could be dangerous, nonetheless. For how slow they are, I don't think it would change anything. They're robots for Christ's sake. It'll be amazing anyways.

I love how they say it's Japan's culture to have big robots. What a true japanese citizen. \o/

"Dear reader, I hope this email finds you before I do."
This seems like a great idea, itll be pretty fun to watch.
The only problem i can find with this is that it will cost a lot so as a sport not everyone will be on board unless they have a high chance of getting a lot of money as a reward.

tbh I hope japan wins and boasts about it as much as America boasted about winning women's world cup
Life's not a waste of time and time's not a waste of life so let's stop wasting time, get wasted and have the time of our lives - Mr Worldwide 3:18
I've mixed feelings. An event like this would be very entertaining to watch, but if it became an actual regular thing I'm pretty sure it would get boring ; and it'd be a huge waste of energy, time, money and "man power" for something utterly useless.
Sounds awesome! Japanese own gundams and awesome robots, y'know. Really looking forward to see the future respond from both side.

For the giant robot fights as a new sport, I think it's cool enough. With the technology we have now we're able to make and fix our own robots, and of course, giant ones will spend more money to make or fix. It's a bit risky, when you're inside of the robot and fight with the other one.

As I see from the video, japanese's robot looks more futuristic, well geared, and really well designed. America's version need to be cleaned and else, but it's kinda cool at the first sight.

It would be awesome! The robotic fighting sport.

When I watch someone like lebron James or Steph curry I'm in awe, I think that wow a human being is doing something incredible. How did he score that shot? How did he do that dunk. Then I go on a court and try to emulate it. Robots fighting I jut don't see it catching on. Its going to get repetitive I feel like. In sports played by people it's always different to a certain extent.
Curious aren't you.
I feel it will be like monster truck events with drunk rednecks shouting like animals around big trucks rolling on smaller cars and attempting backflips. if ya know what I mean.
i'd be excited but do you guys remember the last time they tried to make a humanoid robot fighting thing?

the only difference between humans and robots is the material. I can feel the same way about peoples ability to create shit that you do about your favorite player scoring points. this is pointed at that last statement, do people all create robots the same or something? i mean i think the robot tv tournament league things kinda say otherwise and stuff.

the only reason i'm even in discussion is because robots are my passion
wow that
sucked
