Ranking changes
I'm updating our ranking system. Rankings will reset every month and only some servers will have ranking enabled on them.

Whats new from today:
- Only selected servers will be ranked. "This is a ranked server")
- Before ranked matches you'll get a message. "This is a ranked match (#rank vs #rank)"
- I've enabled ranking on the tourney1-8 servers. Admins can put ranking on any server they please.

Whats coming:
- On the 1st of August I'll clear the current rankings. Yes, all rankings will reset.

On the last of the month will be able to have special events for the best players of that month.

This is still in development so if you have any suggestions feel free to post in this thread.

Has anyone considered that maybe elo is the problem, and not giving us 8 ranked servers and 15 500 tc tourney servers?

EVERYONE has realised this except hampa. It has been stated so many times this rank system is shit and means nothing unless there is elo restricted servers.

Anyways, as everyone agrees, matchmaking can solve every issue in our current ranking system.

-No long wait in tourneys
-Better competition between players
-Players get set up in matches against players of similar skill
-Impossible to farm
-Adds a sense of randomness to the game
-Reduces newbie streakers
-Best out of 3 prevents "lucky" wins
-Forcepingers will receive an infraction point every time they fping.
-Rage quitters will be banned for 12 hours with an additional infraction point.
-Possible to allow people to view your match without being in the game (much like csgo and rocket league).
-Players that are at higher ranks will throughly be more deserving of the rank they are at.

I think those are some good ideas but a little too harsh I would say for ragequitting and such. For instance on Smash 4 its a 10min ban if you leave a match.

I agree with some of that, but infracting pings? people do ping during their fights sometimes. also banning ragequitters; they are already butthurt as it is dont need them whining to GMs, its bad for everyone.

Fun suggestions:

- Ranking Profile:
Highest Rank Finish: #
Highest Rank Defeated: #
Average Season Ranking Finish: #

^ something like that on your usercard instead of useless stuff

Take out ranks all together and create leagues or divisions bronze, silver, gold etc. etc. and allow you to only play in the room which you're leagued in gg.

vvvv

"Find Match" button, you wait until another person of your rank grouping is also searching for a "Find Match" when a opponent is found you get a pop-up "Fight Found, Join?" (This way you can be playing in a unofficial server if wait times are long) then you're whisked away into a private room (server auto-sets a room which is in one of the pre-chosen mods that are being decided on for competitive rn) YOU FIGHT YOUR MATCH AND THEN ITS OVER. GG rinse repeat

Good ideas i like the first idea of a new rank system on our player card, but the (find match button, and wait) idea would be had because what if you are ranked pretty good and none close in on at the time? How would we solve that. Other than that i think these ideas have good intentions!!
Buying TCs for good rates starting the 3rd of every month. Pm if interested.
I'm actually going to have to go with the people saying the old system was better.
It's a good idea to try to make ranks work, but removing the system that people are already used to and somewhat like (it does work in general, but it's exploitable) is a bad idea.
Why not have the old and the new system?
Eitherway, fix quickly.

What are your reasons for not liking the new ranking system? Is it just that some people liked the old system?

EDIT: It's worth remembering the majority of people hated the old ranking system. I don't think a day has gone by during my time as GM where someone hasn't asked when the ranking system are being changed. Since the changes a couple of days ago, I've mainly been hearing positive things, with most of the negatives being to do with teething problems, which were inevitable. Also don't forget that we haven't finished the changes, the current set up is for a month only

But ranks are still based on elo, no need to beat #1 to take his place. Just get more elo playing against others.
What is it with everyone saying the old raking system was better? It was terrible.

Let's review what people could do. They could pick a mod of their liking, modify it, and it would still be considered a ranked match. They could create alts, and just have a go at the newbies!

This system is so much better because you have to beat players in an approved set of mods, and the minimum belt is black so that alts don't just go around farming the ranking. Really, there is no contest. It fixes these two things. People saying that players are shoveling all the time or whatever. Deal with it! Change your tactics, this is TORIBASH. You have all the freedom in the world. Test out single player moves against shovels and just do it against all these petty shovelers. Or you can sit around in the public servers/private servers and not worry about these things. It's up to you!
Your messed up world enthrills me
The way I see it, the only problem with the old system was that people expected it to be an accurate representation of skill.
I always just saw the ELO as a competition with myself. If I wanted to, I could get up to 1700 and that made me happy and certainly kept me playing on the occasions that I saw I was high at around 1680.
It didn't matter that someone could just get global rank 1 through farming, because everybody knows that player is shit anyway. It doesn't help your recognition to be a well ranked player.
If you just play good and avoid making an ass out of yourself, people will respect that. It also seemed to me like it was always the same people complaining about ranks not working, it was certainly not everybody, or the vast majority.
Perhaps there was a half of Toribash that saw the system for how it actually worked, and felt just fine with that? It's at least worth considering.

With the system removed though, there's no incentive to play those extra matches or even try playing good, unless you're in the right server/mod. All the things we've built up around the old system are also gone, such as losing ELO for rage quitting.
