That was a terrible reason. Czech yourself before you wreck yourself.

Anyway, Like Zelda said. Wouldn't simply making bombs be more efficient than making robots that could kill you as well as your enemy?

Nukes do way to much damage, there is no point on bombing a city if you can't have it later, a nuke would not only level most of the city but also leave it barren and irradiated for quite some time, it's not in the best interest for those in power.

It would actually be better to make a bunch of killbots that clean up after themselves, in this case you can eat the cake and have it too. You can keep the city and it's relics instead rebuilding it.

War isn't about just killing, it's about taking something wether it's freedom, equality, treasures or just land.

Also Asimov cool books an smart fellow, but seriously his rules are like 100 years old when robots couldn't even perform nowhere near how they perform now. We can make the illusion that the robot actually thinks now, with things like godbot or whatever, think 20 years from how much improvement do you think there is going to be?

i think and emp/ heat barrier would be the fastest way to stop a robot or a tazer... but really just have fail safes to lets say you program said robot to have AI and every time the robot makes a "Discovery" (like war and death and stuff) it will power off then the owner/master can go and delete the file if he or she so chooses or just turn it back on it would stop any problem before it began and also just plant pieces of c4 in it and rig it so if the robot tries to remove it they will explode and have them as small pieces and plant them on the motherboard so they can be destroyed anywhere and not endanger others if they have no be put down

I don't think the humanity is that stupid to start building robots. Robots that can help in people house but not so inteligent let's say, yes, would be good. But why would we need super advanced robots? I don't see robots usefull in our life to be honest or usefull at many things. Maybe in some manufactures like cars manufactures would be usefull, but we kinda already have those.

So your ''movie theory'' is kinda just a movie theory.
IF the robots would be able to destroy the humanity, they'll really advanced AI. They would be able to think, act in different ways how they treat people etc. And to create that, it need a human behind all of it. Because, robots are programmed to DO something from the codes. And they need mathematics to complete cetern 'quests'/excutiton' to make it happend. But they can't, because we're the one who are controlling it and programming it. If we say that robots may hurt us, they might do it, because we PROGRAMMED it like that. It's all about programming and advanced shit. And it can only be done by a human who knows to how code/programming, like such advanced stuff etc blah blah. xD

Thou I think there will be SOMEONE, SOMENDAY making this into a reality.

But i'm not sure when, it would take time to make something advanced, like this.
How much it costs isn't much of a factor for super powers. It doesn't stop nations spending millions upon millions for this research, I also highly doubt any war would completely leave us extinct, we've gotten this far through some of the worst shit and it isnt stopping, sure some if us is thriving and surviving but were here and still growing in numbers everyday.

Unrelated but Ithink in 40k humans are abundant as ants, we just keep coming.

Also Fallujah was is a good example of bombing, they'll warn you weeks notice if you arent Insurgent get the fuck out, but those who stayed got bombed for an entire week. Americans don't need there infrastructure, it had it's golden age but it's all useless now so they gave no fuck and tore that place asunder, but large cities like Hong Kong, Seoul, Vancouver BC, new York and such are worth billions upon billions why waste that?

Also for bots now, humans have that quest of self preservation, now imagine being able to be in both body andthe net. I think Asimov is slightly wrong and Shirow Masamune of Ghost In The Shell is actuallyon to something, we may develope an ever recoding system, in other words learning like a child, it sees and will ry to emulate it may not have a soul but the thing can think and may care not because of it's initial programming which is long gone but through experience.

Well They created Some Suite like Iron Man It gives super strength But not Flying Lazers etc it just gives your body certain amount of strength Like x2 your strength.
But Wait If There were Robo-Killers Chinese , Japan and some other Countries will Be leading the world As The robots don't feel pain And They don't even risk everything so they will be countered as a Strong Weapons which Giving the people who use it the advantage To have a back Seat Without Risking their lives.

I never have seen a terminator movie, but i was thinking that.

Robot soldiers would be created, for wars and shit.
We have robots now,but imagine if they go to the next level, killing any human alive and even try to kill themselves, nobody knows..
Not exactly flying lazors, but guns or rockets...
Running away...
Seems silly given the current state of AI, and I don't think it will actually happen, but it is possible in theory. I don't know much about AI but clever folks like Elon Musk have expressed their concerns about it. For example: http://www.wired.com/2015/01/elon-musk-ai-safety/. And also this open letter: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_L...l_Intelligence
that's a fun thread ! I won't try to objectively answer the main question, but I'll just try to give some food for thoughts ^^

First, the thought itself, being wipped by robots/AI, something we made. It's a rather odd thought, like people think/fear that if we ever make something able to annihilate us on its own it might just do it because we had it coming ; we probably deserve it for all the shit our civilization and way of life creates, the way we selfishly destroy the eco-system. Like a "divine" retribution inflicted by our own doings, why else would it act against us ?

Now the "technical" aspect. Lets not talk about now because AI are just not there yet, far from it.
If someone ever develops a self-improving AI, and that self improving AI gets to have a mind and thoughts of its own, I think it's very unlikely it would ever wipe everyone off the surface.
Why ? Because that would be stupid as fuck. For something to be able to wipe us out, it would have to use logic and outsmart us (as a whole, it's not very hard individually), study us, think like us, be 100% sure of our impact on the environment, identify us as a disease for our environment, and decide the only solution/remedy would be to destroy us all, in which case the solution itself would probably be more destructive than us.

If it gets to think like us, does it get to feel like us ? Could it have empathy ? The same way we can feel empathy for animals with lesser intellect ?
Maybe it could think our worldwide population needs to be reduced by 50% or more, or else we, and a large part of the eco-system, are doomed. Would it face a moral dilemma ? Would it act and wipe half of the population ? Would it act blatantly to show us what we did to ourselves ? or would it act in secrecy to protect itself and not to create a deep hatered against technology ?

Why should it fundamentaly be violent ? Isn't that a pretty stupid solution for something that's supposed to be smart as fuk ? Why wouldn't it just try to reach high functions in "politics" and try to lesser our impact and solve our problems and the problems we make through non-violent actions, educating us, destroying things that pollute our brains and society, reforming through pure logic in order to decrease our worldwide population on a long term process. Why couldn't we see a robotic-dictatorship trying to deeply change society for the best, or robots becoming humanitarian activists or anything else that doesn't involve mass killings ;o

They could also not act and just stay as spectators and let the "natural" order of things follow its course.

Also, mindless robots just gone crazy and starting to kill everything that looks human is very unlikely to wipe us all. And EMP (electro magnetic bombs) are a thing.

@Odlov

If by "evil" E.Musk means destroying humanity, by basic opposition we can safely state he thinks humanity is the "good" side, the creatures of god or some shit like that. Like the world is black and white. He can't be that stupid, but most people are... it feels more like a clever advertisement for AI research and engineering rather than a serious investment. Just like NASA is trying to get people interested with space exploration again.

By the way, super-intelligent AI isn't the only way robots might be able to destroy humanity. There's a cool hypothetical scenario named Grey Goo, in which self-replicating nano-robots disassemble everything they come in contact with and make more of themselves, until they consume everything on Earth. Not sure if this could actually happen, but creepy.
