The new ranked system is almost impossible to be farmed without being caught.
That's not an accurate reflection of the situation. I get that conventional farming is when one player consistently wins "fixed" matches, either against friends or alts, as you count up your wins for TC or QI or whatever.
In this case however, you have players queue dodging matches against good players, and flat out avoiding lobbies that have good players, to play only matches that you feel confident you'll win.
The effect is similar to smurfing, you play someone a lot worse than you and almost guarantee a win. The difference is in actual competitive games, you have a
matchmaking system where you would automatically get ranked higher for winning games, and forced to eventually play good players, making farming bad players harder and harder as you get placed higher and higher in the ladder until you're playing people of your own skill level again.
Only in those games, smurfing only hurts the lower ELO community. This is way worse than that. In this case, this hurts the lower ELO community because they're getting preyed on like shard feed. Simultaneously - the fantastic players of Toribash are losing out on the top spots in ranked to these players that near-exclusively feed off bad players. They don't even get the chance to lower the "noob farmer/bashing" players as they are so affectionately called because without a matchmaking system, great players are avoided like the plague by top ranked players. If I could make an analogy to another more successful E-Sport***: It would be like if someone who was playing at a skill level could exclusively play Bronze and Silver players, dodge Gold, Platinum, Diamond, and Master players, and got promoted into Challenger's.
Please understand, I completely understand that in a ladder systems very nature, people who play a great deal of games will be rewarded. I recognize the top 50 will fluctuate constantly by activity level and being #1 in a ladder doesn't by any means indicate someone is the best at the game. It's just incredibly imperative that the copious games played are played against equivalent skilled players.
The only consolation prize in all of this is there are a few good players in the top 50, so so long as the tournament at the end of the month isn't exclusively in one abusable mod, these top ranked farmers at least have no shot at winning the tournament when they're forced to actually play an opponent.
