Ranking changes
I'm updating our ranking system. Rankings will reset every month and only some servers will have ranking enabled on them.

Whats new from today:
- Only selected servers will be ranked. "This is a ranked server")
- Before ranked matches you'll get a message. "This is a ranked match (#rank vs #rank)"
- I've enabled ranking on the tourney1-8 servers. Admins can put ranking on any server they please.

Whats coming:
- On the 1st of August I'll clear the current rankings. Yes, all rankings will reset.

On the last of the month will be able to have special events for the best players of that month.

This is still in development so if you have any suggestions feel free to post in this thread.

If I could add to his testimony a tad, a ranking system is one of the most important parts of the competitive cookie! Players coming into this game need a sense of direction of where to work towards and how, but the advice they get is all over the place because one minute they see a clan ranked #5 in Clan Ranks and the next minute they're being told that clan isn't super splendiferous and to ignore Clan Ranks. One minute they see a player with a global rank of 5 and crap themselves, the next they're told ranks are done poorly and ignore those too.

Never have I ever seen a game where people go "You shouldn't pay attention to the belt the player has, the rank she has, the clan ranking she has, her global rank, or her items! Things aren't in place for a good competitive scene that justly places people in a bracket based off their ability in the 10 years this game is been out. They are talking about adding one soon though! ^^"

Making the ranking system for what the majority would like is a bit like balancing a MOBA based off what it's mid and low tier players think. That'd be silly! The professionals who kick booty at the game are best left to discuss balance concerns, and others simply need to improve before they understand the errors in their ways!

I hope that makes sense :3

This is an great point that I haven't really thought of before. Proper rankings are a massive motivators for new players. Climbing the ranks and having it actually mean something is super important as a motivator. I hate to say it but sometimes I've played LoL just so I could see the LP rise and get to the next division, not because it was super fun at the time. We need the same kind of motivator in TB and have it actually mean something.

ps. Did you lose a bet or why is your post so incredibly weeaboo atm?

Its pretty much at a point where all efforts should just be abandoned and toribash should be left to the clowns that run it and then it can die slowly as it has been for years.

Hampa (aka Sir) is incapable of listening to the active players who are actually good at the game.

People litteratly throwing brilliant ideas at you and just ignore them. PLEASE just have faith in the majority of suggestions in this thread

Talk to the top ranking players.

Hope you don't mean top ranking players according to the top rank in game lol. Think you worded that wrongly

and also that "he plays 12h+ a day" advantage

Such a horrible idea. First of all you probably mean first 200 in a month.
Why wouldn't I just play those games against white belts and get 30:1 winratio.

200 games in a day? I don't think you are right in the head. Nobody can do 200 games in a day without play the whole fucking day.

Hey there mate! I don't think that's a very good idea ^^', here's why:

We can estimate that a competetive game of Toribash is roughly 10 turns long. That'd be 700 frames of judo, 500 games of wushu, etc etc. The reaction time of a standard game is 20 seconds. That means an average match takes 200 seconds, or 3 minutes 20 seconds.

100 games of Toribash at this rate would take 300 minutes and 200 seconds. Or 303 minutes. That's a little more than 5 hours of playing time, with no time watching the replay and waiting in line.

So your win loss ratio of 200 games a day would take more than 10 hours straight of Toribash just to make changes to rank. I think that's a tad much :0

The biggest question that I bring to you kind sir or ma'am is how does capping games played a day for rank fix the most major problem at hand? We have players spending hours a day noob farming to make it to the top 50, then switching to "noob sniping" where for hours and hours they wait until they find the easiest ELO gains possible, avoiding real challenges. That's why you have top global ranked players touting they spent 14 hours on Toribash today but if you look at their match history they only played 33 games. And weird; they won 28 of 32.

The problem remains, friend, is you get to choose your flimsy opponent, choose the mod you play them in, and can even force ping to dodge losses as the lovely Coyote0500 just admitted to.

Matchmaking fixes all of those problems, we simply need to get our ducks in order to make it happen AND get the developement team to put their best efforts on the project.

Hope that helps =]

Hampa has currently got ELo servers with rotating mods up. He just needs to apply this to all server and then we have a semi meh rank system.

Are you gonna be adding rank restrictions to all servers with mod rotation?
SOME NEW CHANGES

As you will see, there have been some changes to ranked and tourney servers.

The main change is that all ranked servers (both 'Ranked' and 'Tourney') are in elo tiers, so noob-farming should no longer be possible.

Ranked servers

4 ELO tiers: 0-1612, 1608-1632, 1628-1660, 1645+

Within each ELO tier, we have 3 servers with categories 'Striking', 'Grappling' and 'Kicking' which each have a modlist of 3-4 mods. The modlists are as follows:
Striking: lenshu3ng, rk-mma, wushu3box, stabjutsu_original
Grappling: aikidobigdojo, rb_greykido, greykido
Kicking: taekkyon, erthtkv2, taido2, deltaboxfixed

In each tier there is a 4th server called 'Mixed', which will have a selection from each category, as well as 1 or 2 others (i.e. the Mixed server will have a long modlist)

Tourney servers

3 ELO tiers: 0-1612 (500tc tourneys), 1608-1632 (750tc tourneys), 1628+ (1000tc tourneys)

In each ELO tier, we have the same categories as the ranked servers - 'Striking', 'Grappling' and 'Kicking'.

We have also made 4 public tourneys which will have no ELO restrictions, but will also not affect ELO/rank. The mods in these 4 tourneys are prone to change upon our will / your demand.

USEFUL COMMAND: use /rules in any server to see the modlist

SOOOO, we're hoping that this should put a stop to noob-farming, and be another step towards making ranks meaningful before matchmaking comes in - as you'll need to be successful in more than 1 mod to rank up and won't be able to prey on users with far lower ELOs.

We're aware the multiplayer list looks quite untidy now - but as soon as possible, the only servers visible to you will be the ones you are able to enter (similar to how you can't see beginner/intermediate/semipro servers anymore)

We think the categorisations for the mods are pretty good, but let us know if you have any suggestions. 2 of my concerns is that deltaboxfixed might not quite fit in any of the categories (so should perhaps be removed?) and that the striking category has 3 'lenshu-like' mods and only 1 wushu mod.

Anyway, happy complaining
