In real life you can be a competent human being and ignore them if you get butthurt over their words, or more realistically in my generation, blame all of your failures and emotions on everyone else so a) everything offends you even if it was obviously not offensive, or b) you stop trust everyone.

Ironically, the above also applies to the internet, and I'm willing to bet that most people that report stupid little race issues that really aren't race issues fall under the (a) category. I'll also probably be reported for pointing out that all of those people aren't in touch with their feelings, thus offending them.

Its all about context and the manner in which it was said, staff (GMs in particular) really seem to struggle with this concept. I understand that rules implemented by staff are very black and white (pun intended) so that there is no grey area for arguing.

That being said I really feel that this type of ruling really kills of the community feel and freedom that games need. I think Toribash is waaaaaay to over-moderated and a much more relaxed take on rules creates a much less "Staff vs Players" atmosphere.

I'm sure in 99% of reports no one is offended. I think there is very very few genuine racists in the toribash community. Out of the 100s that say nigga i think none are actually racist. The only real racist person in the toribash community i can think of is Fish.

Fish never got banned for being racist (one of the only real racists) where as 100s of people having fun and casually using the word nigga have been banned.

don't make this something that it isn't. has this word been widely known to equate to racism? yeah. has the meaning begun to change in modern times? yeah. but you can't assume people aren't offended by the word because you perceived it as being said in a joking, non-serious or non-harmful manner. so in that regard, if someone is reported for being "racist" you have to assume that the person who reported this was offended by what was said.
in regards to "racist jokes" aren't always racist, just re-read what you wrote man. if they are called racist jokes they aren't appropriate. they play off stereotypes and prejudice against a race.
from my perspective, honestly it's all about what your intentions are with the word. if you're saying it in a disrespectful tone obviously trying to piss me or someone else off then don't be surprised if you catch fade. if not, it's cool no matter what your race is. as far as toribash goes, the bans for saying nigga are unnecessary. i've seen bans for it if it's even heard in a casual conversation between 2 people ingame. the assumption that the word is automatically offensive to everyone obviously isn't the case and if we really want to protect people's feelings i think the people who might be offended should speak up.
Tupac once defined the word: He said a nigger is the one hanging on the rope, while the nigg(a) is the one with the gold ropes hanging at a club.

Also I think everybody hates when the white man say that word because, they enslaved us. I believe many people hang that over thier heads. Right now I have an Italian girlfriend and I myself are Afro American so my friends usually make jokes such as " Isaacs' gonna get 22 to life" or "you keep playing with her like that you going to jail" referring to how "Blacks" were falsely accused of rape by Caucasian women. So I don't believe its just the white man cant say the word, I believe its deep seeded un-forgiveness. Most of my friends still use the Black Power symbol even though were in highschool and did not even witness that generation, they have even debated that if white slavery happens would they enslave Hispanics.

Not that we should try to pretend the world is still like that or harbour the grudges those times created, but to pretend that history should be ignored can be foolish.

Thing is, in 2K15, "nigga" is more associated to the hip-hop culture and "hood talks", rather than historic oppression. Most people who use that word have always been hearing it out of its racial oppression context.

It has nothing to do with belittling or ignoring the past oppression of black people.

That's kinda stupid tho, I never enslaved anyone and I'm white, you've never been enslaved by anyone and you're afro-american. We're all slaves of the financial system and their corporation whores tho, but that's another matter.
This is all in american though, I've heard hip hop groups use "nigga" as more of an ordinary word in vocabulary, It's simply people are giving the word power so it just gets worse, in a few years a new word will come up for people to get offended by.

I don't exist
Words or Actions, was it the words that were offensive or the actions related to the words. We know actions speak louder than words. Ain't no nigger, wetback, caucusoidGerm, or Chug, chink etc gunna' get steel poled and beat down by some words.

The thread itself permits a little extra leeway when it comes to slurs, but please be sensible, there is a limit.
I think it shouldn't be classified as racist because i am black, and my friends and associates call each other my nigga and stuff, so it would be double standarding if some white guy who is trying to fit in says the word. I don't have a problem with someone saying the word as it not that serious, just don't mean it in the racist way.
