Religion is a way to control a big part of society at once. You don't need to folow a religion to bielieve in what you want to believe.
I'm not sure if you can understand me necause we live in different parts of the Earth so in many countries there is no difference between a religion and a belief.

We could kill them by the thousands every day. The best they can do is nowhere near that number (per year).
I know you guys haven't had an actual war since the middle ages, but turning the other cheek isn't an option.
There probably won't be another NATO ground war in the Middle East. Arming Turkey and perhaps getting them to sit down with the Kurds is an option though. Tolerating Assad would guarantee Russian help in the area, and the Saudis and Jordanians are already on our side. Dividing up Iraq's policing between these states could work post-war.
