I'm trying to get into art, but i kinda suck so i'm looking for tips like what programs to use etc.

Gimp is a good starter, using templates can help. Starting out simple like experimenting with eye mapping, mouth mapping to get a basic idea. Sometimes changing resolutions of your image to 1024x512 is very helpful since you dont have to worry about map stretching.
