There is ever only one master of a family. They are the oldest, the strongest, and the fiercest of all vampires. They are so powerful that even the call for blood is no longer a necessity, and even the pain of the sun is forgotten. As they pass on the dark gift and form their family, they draw strength from those beneath them, forming a network beneath them that pushes them to new levels of strength, beyond even elders, with larger more powerful families having more powerful Masters. They are strong enough to break down walls of stone and fast enough to disappear even from vampire sight. A master also has full control over all three of the soul powers. A new master can only form when the old master dies, allowing the Elders to tap into their own bloodlines, and form new families. However, if one elder consumes the entirety of the Master's blood, he instead takes his place as the head of the family, without the need to form his own.

When a vampire reaches a certain age, has tasted enough blood, and proven themselves loyal, they are offered blood from the Master. Once they taste it, they are elevated from service and become leaders within the family. Their only true duty is to watch those beneath them and make sure the Master's wishes are carried out. They are incredibly strong, able to lift nearly twenty times their own body weight and fast enough that the human eye can no longer track them, although still visible to those with keener vision. An elder also develops the two powers the were not trained in, although they remain cruder then their first.

After a vampire is old enough to stop counting the years and starts to count the decades that pass by, they have grown old enough to be ascendants. Ascendants are hunters, guardians, or keepers, who have become leaders among their own kind, turned to by those beneath them, sometimes out of respect, but mostly out of fear. Pure bloods still work for the family, but their duties are not nearly as many as they once were. They are strong enough to lift ten times their own weight, and fast enough to out pace most cars. Ascendants also master their training in whichever power they were shown.

Hunters are in charge of finding food for the family. They look for special request by the leaders, as well as sturdy stock that could be turned into cattle. Trained in stealth, charm, and nonlethal combat by Ascendants, they are the hand that reaches into the huddled masses and takes what they will. Hunters are trained in the power of astral projection.

Newbloods are those that have just been turned. They are not a full vampire, they have to go through a course, and have to prove themselves to be a vampire, but for now they are the underbloods of the family.
