Open Borders and Migration
With the recent European migrant crisis came new calls for open borders. The idea of open borders is that people should be allowed to move freely between countries and settle wherever they wish. There are multiple reasons why people support the idea of open borders.

First, humanitarian reasons. Supporters point to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which states that "Everyone has the right to freedom of movement and residence within the borders of each state". It's argued that the current way we manage our borders is in opposition with this human right.

Second, it would reduce poverty. People in developing countries who are in poverty would move to developed countries and be able to earn higher wages. This lifts them out of 'developing poverty' (the abject poverty we see in developing countries) into 'developed poverty' (poor by Western standards). Migrants often send cash back to their family back home, essentially raising them from poverty as well. This act of sending money back home, the flow of 'remittance' is estimated to be currently 3 times higher than global foreign aid spending.

Third, economic reasons. Economists predict that open borders, allowing people to work wherever they wish, would result in around a doubling of GWP (gross world product). Poor people in developing countries produce less wealth than they would if the were poor people in developed countries.

That's, in a nutshell, the case for open borders (there's other reasons, but I believe those are the main ones). I'll leave it up to you guys to come up with the case against open borders.

The question I want discussed is; do you think changing our world to a world with open borders is a good thing? Why/why not?
Opening boarders? absolutely idiotic, especially with radicals like ISIS growing ever more bloodthirsty.

There will also be a mass exodus to First world nations such as Mexico to the Us and Middle Eastern nations to Europe (which is already happening). It would also encourage nomadism between countries.

The fluctuation of population would cause mass shifts in payments of taxes and imagine the differences in the space of years in politics because of the shifting demographics

Honestly sounds like the prelude to the apocalypse, pure chaos with no real benefits apart from more money being earned and fixing a minor breach in the Declaration of Human rights

EDIT: Also that article is referring to the movement of state such as Florida to California, a big difference

You say no real benefits, but wouldn't you agree that open borders would would do a lot to minimise poverty? A higher GDP is often taken to mean a higher standard of living (as GDP is widely used as a measure of standard of living), so a higher GWP would seemingly also result in a higher global standard of living. I'm not sure you can so easily trivialise the economic benefits, even if your conclusion is that, as a whole, open borders are not a good idea.
I would love open boarders if we all could just get along. Right now, open boarders wouldn't be the best idea with islamic extremists, and just about anyone that wishes to inflict damage on another individual or group. A state and/or country for that matter.

As an American, I will be speaking about my country mainly, rather than others.

1. Yes, everyone has freedom when within US boundaries, but, I don't think you're allowed full rights until you're a U.S. citizen. There needs to be heavier background checks and screening instead of just checking the terrorist watch list. "Oh your name isn't on there, you're free to go." That's how people get killed.

2. See, this is something im torn on. Yes, it's nice to help the less fortunate and letting them come to developed counties. But, do we really have to? I mean, can't we just go there, and help them? We already are, but it isn't enough. I dislike letting immigrants come and take jobs from those who were born here.

3. Im sure it would lead to a world wide growth in income. But it would just take jobs away from nation born citizens (as stated before). There needs to be an alternative.

"Dear reader, I hope this email finds you before I do."
That second reason is terrible. People live poverty everywhere. Helping other people in other countries before we help our own citizens is just stupid and will only make our countries homeless problem even worse. Canada should keep it's legs closed and keep the land of awesome to ourselves.
A problem with open borders is the vast majority of competent people leaving their impoverished countries.
Those countries need competent people the most.
Also seeing some terrible results from mass immigration in Sweden right now due to not being prepared to take on this many immigrants.
Our system isn't made to deal with it, and I can imagine that problem arising again for anyone else with open borders if a nearby impoverished country experiences some sort of horror. (ISIS, tsunami, floods, war, etc.)
PM me with any and all questions
What if some terrorist cross through the open borders they will be like no one's gonna like that

WTF am I saying Wink wink and God bless Wink Wink
-----
Speaking of terrorist what if something happens to Europe like the same thing that happened to Philippines because China tries to steal the west Philippine sea

Just a example wink wink
