Actually, this might end up being productive. Don't close it yet :<

They're talking about moderation guidelines and where the proper line should be drawn when making rules.
@wibblefox

A lot of the OT rules were made as results of things that degraded the section in the past. If we become lenient or don't do our job, which you considered "lazy moderation", then the rules have a high chance of becoming redundant. Some of the rules require a more objective stance. In example; "no useless threads" rule requires a more human response than "no x vs z gaming threads".

At the end of the day, someone needs to help out and the ones that do spend a lot of free time doing so. If we didn't have moderators, pretty much every section would be full of crap.

For the record, unless you're being super toxic, not getting the hint, or being a troll, you're typically never infracted. You are treated and talked to subjectively. I believe the moderation in OT, even if it is much, causes about 0 harm for people who make simple mistakes because we understand that it happens all the time. There is a reason we don't ban everyone who breaks rule d.

I try to mold things in off-topic with the community and if you have ideas for the section, you can let me know.
Chickster: I literally don't know why I did it.

People are welcome to tag their thread as serious, and they are welcome to ignore posts they don't deem to be serious enough, but ultimately there is no need for a rule.

I'm just asking for clarification here.

Are you saying you want shitposts to be allowed in all areas of the forum? If so, do you think people are going to be happy to sift through 5 posts of mindless garbage for every decent post? Hopefully I'm not coming across defensive here - just looking for your stance on this.

I also closed that thread since I'm not going to turn off the rules because a user requested it - maybe if there's a decent discussion and the rules change.
Better matchmaking would be good, but with very few and pretty inactive in game devs Im not sure how realistic it is.

I disagree that the old system is better than the new system, the new system sure is not optimal but I cant really find any way of justifying judging the old one as superior.
Don't dm me pictures of bowls that you find attractive.
or stop producing TC all together?

What if they just stopped generating TC and the only way you're going to make TC is marketing, dueling, and bet servers. it'd also make events way more appealing.

demanding high standards from replay posts would be a great way to kill an already scarce part of the community by discouraging people to post. generally, activity generates more activity. usually only people with atleast a bunch of months of replaymaking under their belt are able to give actual useful "real cnc", and it's not very rewarding to walk that road if nobody is allowed to encourage you to make replays. some people play the game for fun but other play the game to climb the ranks, which is a reason just as valid as any other.

i think a lot of people underestimate being encouraged when it comes to replays, years ago when i made replays every day i loved having people post in my thread because it encouraged me to make more replays, but i rarely took into consideration what any of the posts actually said.

i also think it's worth mentioning that the current format for CnC, which looks somewhat like this:

"opener was v
2nd part was w
3rd part was x
pose was y
z job!"

..was created after higher quality posts were demanded in the board. so people decided to comment on replays chunk by chunk to make it look like they were trying, which actually decreases the quality of the post in my opinion because it doesn't take into consideration things like the transitions between parts, and the scope of the entire replay and how every part comes together as one. they will also fill in the blanks with anything, including "average" or "ok" just to fill in the format and have what is considered decent cnc.
oh yeah

we aren't promoting more posts over better posts, quality posters will still post even if other people don't have posts as elaborate. If people see one really short post, they won't magically become inspired to make dozens of really short posts themselves, especially in a part of the community that is powered by people's love for the game. essay writers will remain essay writers (unless we explicitly forbid them).

and post that on every single replay thread. Most of the posts on the replay thread are equivalent to clicking a like button, which is fine because it's encouraging to replay makers but post farming would be so easy to do there has to be a better option to it. I agree that people shouldn't have to go make 100 word replay posts but some type of standard to the posts would help right now the only posts that get deleted seem to be the ones that are 2 words long.

this isn't related to the quality of the board, it's related to the fact that a lot of replays are really similar (ukebashing replays in particular almost always have the opener, the bashing part and then a pose).

Re: post farming, Moderation's job is to prevent bad posts from showing up, not to prevent someone from posting a lot. One is generally associated with the other but they are not symbiotic.
oh yeah
