18 years is a very long life for a doggy, you must have treated him really well for him to live that long, sorry to hear about this reta, i've had to do this a couple times and its never a happy day I'm sure you loved him as much as he loved you.

What breed was he? I can't tell

Nobody exactly knows, he was a street dog in spain for the 1 year of his life, got shot with a shotgun too, expected to only live 5 years because some bullets couldnt get removed.
He was a fighter I guess
