So anyways, i've decided to try doing a digital painting of Larry, the lil' maniac in my avatar. The fun part? I've never done a digital painting before. In here, you can follow the extremely exciting development of the drawing. Note, due to large resolution, i shall be linking to the images...

First WIP, working on the stalk.

Second WIP. Stalk on hold for now, working on head. Head needs to be moved up.

You can criticise and comment if you wish, though i can't guarantee that i'll be able to accomodate your criticism, due to my low skill level. :U

I'll be sticking with doing him from scratch though, as i don't mind the image deviating a bit from the original.

Third WIP. Finished up the head for now, decided not to move it up.

Fourth WIP. Added thorns, though perhaps too many of them. Also made the shizzle at the bottom quickly.

I'm starting to like the sketchy style myself, though i still might have to clean it up a bit in the end. :U

If you clean it up and keep adding like you are, it should turn out pretty well, you've got the shading bits down, keep it up.

Yeah, i might end up scaling it down. I'm working in 66,7% zoom anyways, so it wouldn't make a huge difference to me. =P

@DarkJak: The outline you see is actually just the rough sketched shape, which i've colored over. But yeah, they're separate layers. Also, the big brush mitigates my shaky hand. You can see the effects of a smaller brush on the teeth. :U

Zooming in did make the cleaning up notably easier, so here is...

The fifth WIP. Cleaned up head and stalk, and moved the head up a bit anyways.

Really need to do something about that bottom part now.

Edit: Hmm, removing the black outlines produces an interesting effect...

Sixth WIP. More cleaning, worked on the bottom, added some red iris' to his eyes.

Seventh WIP. Fiddled a bit with the bottom.

And finally...



I'm willing to call that finished for now. Might add a background later. Maybe also improve on the bottom later.

He's far too crazy to understand the concept of "derp". Right now, he's wondering what body lotion tastes like.

Not at all. In fact, i've always wanted to see one of my characters get souped up by a better artist. :U

Well, i don't have any clear ideas, but somewhere in the nature would fit him. Grassy, with a few trees. Maybe also a couple of hills. On the other hand, he, like Jerry and Garry, can spontaneously appear basically everywhere. I think the previously described scene fits him, but you can do whatever background you want, really. =P
