Society, The Future, and Our Destruction [BIS]

"Perhaps I am the only one feeling this way, but I have been noticing that our society (American society, at least) is filled with desensitization ( a.k.a. we're becoming less human, so to say) and that good morals and values are pretty much out the window in a majority of people.

So, I make this thread because I want to hear what you all think, considering a good portion of you may have experiences or thoughts about how society is turning towards a really bad fate.

To share an experience with you that is pretty personal, I spent 17 months in a treatment program. It was a place where I didn't see any family for months and I was pretty much on my own changing my behaviors. I was a lot younger then and was really a delinquent. I don't know if I should go into detail more, but I changed a lot and now have the values that I believe most people should have.

So, What do you think? "

The previous thread has been closed for no particular reason but redundant's opinion that "it has little to do with discussion". But Imo that's a matter everyone should think about at least once, and sharing ideas about it is pretty much as good as this discussion board can get, and still better than a lot of scheisse threads I've seen on the discussion board.

Also Redundant, I think you just got the OP wrong, and I think you might have mixed up with your personnal feels about depression. But this topic has nothing to do with depression ! Saying that wondering about the state of society and pointing its flaws is caused by depression is pretty much depressing in itself.

Thinking about the actual state of society sure can be depressing, even more now because, with our supa-communicability all over da world, we can see how our past choices and choices we didn't make are fucking up the lives of billions of people accross the world, and we see our actual world wide system is flawed, democratic countries ain't so democratic, we consume our environment way more than we should etc...
But society =/= Life. Society can be as shit as it can get, Life will always be a wonderful thing. I mean, I'm simply happy in my everyday Life ; as long as I've food, a roof, family, friends, a guitar and a decent health, I can only be one happy motherlover. BUT, that doesn't keep me from thinking about society and how we could try to make it better, or we'll end up wipping ourselves out of earth.

You said (redundant) "Life is not about achieving a dream or some sort of goal but living every day as best as you can, using all your strength to better yourself both physically and intellectually". I agree, from an individualistic point of view and how to be happy with yourself, but some people have different "social consciousness" and need more than just acceptance.

Some people care about others, some people just want to know more about the world, some just want to go for their dreams, some people care about the future, may it be only for their children or for the survival of the species on a longer term. Because that's what Life is about as well, durability of the species. It's in any living thing's genes.
Personnaly, as I said, I can live in joy and bliss with the simplest things in Life. But we only have one life, and I'll do anything to reach my goals and dreams, no matter how huge and crazy they are. Failing won't make me unhappy, I'm aware of how precious life is and will always enjoy any moment.

Now, to the people who said "Society can't become worst" and it can only get better compared to humanity's past. That's true and false at the same time.
Life is made of cycles, nothing is unchanging, and certainly not human society. On a large time scale, the human society is getting better, life is easier for most people, but that large time scale is "fractured" in smaller cycles (society models) which have rised and fell. Each models have been brought up because the previous one had reached a point where it couldn't bring good changes anymore, or because it was corrupted.

So yeah, society is getting better, but it's only getting better because some people knew when the social model they were living in was going down to shit and needed to be changed, needed some new before it was too late.
Plus, we do have more comfort, but we're reaching a point where the absurd way we live is getting "incompatible" with our natural environment, to the point we'll destroy ourselves (and many other species) in the name of ONE political/economical model.

And I think that was ItsZombie meant by "values that I believe most people should have" : an unconditional respect for Life and your fellow humanbeings

Ugh, this thread is about anything and everything.
If you wanna debate society, make a thread about a specific aspect thereof.
My post was mostly an encouragement for the threadowner to help him out of his depression by providing insight about my own personal way out. It wasn't meant for you to scrutinize publicly. If you want to do that, send me a PM.
