I've made a lot of friends through toribash, but I think I mainly appreciate seeing other people's passion for the game and more specifically replays. Even if it is a genre of replaymaking I don't particularly care to practice myself, when you see it, I see it

Of course? It's just a videogame. What I say/do within toribash reflects my general personality somewhat but to the rest of you I'm just tabby and I have no clue who pretty much any of you are so there's an obvious separation. I don't have an interest in knowing most of you interpersonally

Not really part of enough online communities to really have a say, but longevity? Maybe?

Toribash as a game feels weirdly timeless to me, as if it exists in a vacuum. The game is omega-dead now but when I was last involved there were people from all kinds of different age groups and regions all interested in the same game, but their different life experiences and interests lead them to play the game ever so slightly differently from the next. I was pretty much only really interested in ukebash for the near-decade I've been playing this game but the variety of approaches and decisions people make within their replays has always really stuck out to me because I'm the type of person to be obsessed with the 'why' for a particular decision. I always want to know why a person would go out of their way to do something that I might deem as frivolous, and said reasons usually run a lot deeper than simply "I did it because I liked it". It's a type of skill(?) expression I haven't really found in other games so every replay I view regardless of its quality feels completely fresh to me

I don't see how this is relevant to Toribash, would you mind explaining that to me? Or is this just a weird jab at a particular person in the community you dislike? I don't know who you are, so I'm only guessing.

But no, I don't think so? At the very least no one's pointed out anything to me, and I think that's the important bit. I think I'm in the clear

I've tried most drugs at least once. I haven't done them while playing Toribash. Who the fuck does that lmao surely there's more entertaining things you could do while off your rocker. My perception of reality is the same as it has always been

I would browse the forums a lot to study replays, but I think it's about even. I'm not a very interactive person by nature

I perceive it as a game I play in my free time to improve at something I value. I think that's fairly productive. When I don't want to play it I just don't play it. Sometimes I can grind out an entire replay in about 20 minutes, sometimes I don't really get anywhere I'm interested in and I save it where I'm at, and come back later when I've thought about the replay I'm working on and workshopped an idea which might be doable

I saw people in some other thread saying that playing the game is self-hate and they're miserable or something? I fail to see how you could really end up like that. Sharpen the axe before you cut down the tree or whatever man I think they say that in the bible. In fairness I am a ukebasher and such a thing is a lot more free-form than other forms of replaymaking and I can understand how having an off-day would be really upsetting, but just don't play man idk I'm not a therapist

I will add, I have dyspraxia and even since I was a child I've always had difficulty participating in most physical activities. I used to be really quick and unusually strong in my prime but poor form and control always made me a difficult team mate in school or something lol. But when I got better at toribash, being able to visualise what I need to do within my body to do a certain action helps to get over that hurdle. I mean I still break my toes every other week on tables and such but I got unusually cracked at basically any physical endeavour. It sounds so autistic but I promise you bro I look at athletes doing things and I visualise the joints I must move to replicate it and I can usually crack it in a couple tries LMFAO

Bit of a strange question tho

Why must you type like this?

I must ask seriously for a moment, do you believe that 'trolling' in a game with a peak player count of 11 is an indication of a behavioural or psychological issue? Like with a straight face man. And are you aware that ending your post in such a way encourages that behaviour also? Is this once again a jab at a particular person? Just wondering

1) What is it about the toribash community that you enjoy?

diversity and fraternity, the feeling of bonding over something as simple as a ragdoll physics game from almost 20 years ago, with its incredible customization and endless possibilities when it comes to gameplay, I feel like it is a very loose frame that fits many philosophies, so it breeds a profoundly creative and proactive community, be it replay making, dueling, texture making, marketing, I remember back in the day you'd have a bazaar-like surge of services and art just pouring out, it definitely taught me a lot and my appreciation for the game and the community has much more to do with the community than the game.

2) Do you believe that the persona you associate with your toribash account to be separate from your identity in the physical world that we occupy?

no I try to be me (legend)

3) Does this website and community have something that other online communities doesn't have? If yes, elaborate

on my end since I'm from 2008 it's an incredibly in depth sense of fortified friendship across over a decade, I have friends whom I have stayed over at their house abroad and people whom I've spoken to every day since I was 9-10, I've grown here and a big chunk of my roots reside here, I wouldn't want it any other way

4) Do you believe you suffer from any kind of mental health problems?

my heart goes out for those who do

5) Have you ever used drugs? if yes, how has this impacted your perception of reality and how you experience "toribash"

I've tried a couple but in no way do I feel like it impacts toribash, I guess being high and thinking about the game and the community and how it's allowed me to do so many things would definitely shower me with gratitude but it's not something I do either regularly or plan on doing, as per toribash related art I think my process is too intricate and would be impaired if I'm intoxicated, and I barely play the game so I don't plan on playing high either

6) How often is your forum usage compared with time spent in game?

I have 1,569 qi and 14,000 posts

7) Do you perceive the way you use toribash (both as a videogame and as an online forum) to be conductive to good mental health and living your best life?

yes

to expand on that question, it's only really relevant to me and my own understanding, it isn't a jab at any particular user at all. I've dealt with mental health issues in my life and in the lives of people close to me so it's something I am interested in learning about.

This last bit was a light hearted joke and it was welcoming and inviting that kind of behaviour gladly because I find it amusing to observe and the folk who enjoy to behave like that find it amusing to do, I see no real issue here as it is mutually beneficial for both parties, kind of like having a joke with the jokers if you will

I just want to further clarify that any questions asked pose no attempt at upsetting or offending anyone, there is no attempt to "jab" at any other users, I am simply attempting to expand my own knowledge of the community and its members
-----
I will give my answers to the questions in a few days also

1) What is it about the toribash community that you enjoy?

Ultimate shit post platform where I have seen 15 years of content and memes in a relatively small community.

2) Do you believe that the persona you associate with your toribash account to be separate from your identity in the physical world that we occupy?

Yes just how my personality at work is not the same as the personality my friends at home see and my girlfriend sees and my family sees and when I speak Russian I have a different personality as well. It can be similar at times but everyone views me differently.

3) Does this website and community have something that other online communities doesn't have? If yes, elaborate

Yes that it's small and that I've been here for 15 years along with some other people.

4) Do you believe you suffer from any kind of mental health problems?

I am mentally healthy and happy with my life in general.

5) Have you ever used drugs? if yes, how has this impacted your perception of reality and how you experience "toribash"

I smoked weed a handful of times and I drink alcohol regularly. I never did those things when I played the game I just post on the forums now for the past 10 years or so

6) How often is your forum usage compared with time spent in game?

Much more time posting than ingame. 100 to 1 probably lol

7) Do you perceive the way you use toribash (both as a videogame and as an online forum) to be conductive to good mental health and living your best life?

Yes I post online when I feel like it and I can say anything that's generally nonharmful here. The freedom to say whatever I want with pretty much no consequences or thought for how irl would judge me is enjoyable

1) What is it about the toribash community that you enjoy?Clans
2) Do you believe that the persona you associate with your toribash account to be separate from your identity in the physical world that we occupy?
Nah, I'm about the same here as I am in my day to day. Probably a little less cursing.
3) Does this website and community have something that other online communities doesn't have? If yes, elaborate
Yea. We all collectively click or have clicked balls. I haven't found another game like this.
4) Do you believe you suffer from any kind of mental health problems?
Mild amounts of depression.
5) Have you ever used drugs? if yes, how has this impacted your perception of reality and how you experience "toribash"
Weed, it just makes it more fun honestly.
6) How often is your forum usage compared with time spent in game?
I'm on the forums more than I am in game. I'm on the forums every couple hours.
7) Do you perceive the way you use toribash (both as a videogame and as an online forum) to be conductive to good mental health and living your best life?

It's apart of my life. Has been since the beginning of 2013. A few of my closest friends are through here. My clan is the only reason I'm still playing. I love those fuckers and if they are playing, here I am.

1) What is it about the toribash community that you enjoy?
it doesnt happen often but being able to nerd out about specific turns/moves is peak, the oldschool community vibes we had until 2017, the random banter ppl get up to in pub servers

2) Do you believe that the persona you associate with your toribash account to be separate from your identity in the physical world that we occupy?
yes 100%, my kirito identity was completely separate from who i was irl, i wanted him to be an over the top version of the kirito from the anime, sometime last year i stopped being assss serious about it

3) Does this website and community have something that other online communities doesn't have? If yes, elaborate
the ease of access to find and interact with someone across the planet, back when everyone had thick skin and would bully each other for the lols i remember thinking toribash was the last remnants of an era of when games were built from passion and not a paycheck

4) Do you believe you suffer from any kind of mental health problems?
im playing toribash arent i?

5) Have you ever used drugs? if yes, how has this impacted your perception of reality and how you experience "toribash"
ive done thc, lsd, shrooms, dmt, the only one that actually had impact on me would prolly be dmt, playing on lsd feels like doctor strange when he was looking for the 1 reality where the avengers won and then cool distortions over the joints, i watched my texture set morph into some swirly starry night stuff once, shrooms kills my capacity for critical thinking and im just havin a good time, i think shrooms lets me feel my tori pretty well but i cant do stuff like analyze the opponents next moves and form a strategy as instant as im used to, thc helps my brain feel the game better, feeling the wind blowing across my polygons, i probably play my best sober but i would say thc/lsd are my favorite for tb, with thc winning cuz i can smoke all the time without giving myself psychosis, dont do drugs its risky business, and if u do well atleast try to be as safe as u can about it

6) How often is your forum usage compared with time spent in game?
i just hop on forums to check out any new threads that seem interesting which is usually only a few mins, i usually play toribash in 1-2hour sessions maybe like twice a day(i played like 12-18 hours a day throughout most of a summer when i was kid)

7) Do you perceive the way you use toribash (both as a videogame and as an online forum) to be conductive to good mental health and living your best life?
yes toribash has been a discipline more than a game to me, like riding bmx or practicing martial arts or whatever skill u wanna pick, it opened my eyes to how people around the world think when i was very sheltered, singleplayer stuff is a way to destress and try to let some creativity flow, its given a very detailed visualization of physics and momentum which has been awesome for bmx and recently skateboarding, i landed my first ollie in a few tries thx to kinda figuring it out in toribash, then landed backside shuv a few tries after my first ollie, i landed a backside big spin in like 5 minutes a few days ago(board does 360 and body does 180 with the rotation) its taken about 100ish attempts to land my first and only kickflip i havent been able to land one again even though ive gotten real close to riding em out a few times, as far as bmx goes it helps alot too but skateboarding is just so intuitive when i relate it to toribash i probably have about 15-20ish hours on a board, probably less if im being honest, i have about 7 years of xp on bmx but its been a struggle the whole time learning things, skateboarding just makes so much more sense in my head
