Toribash
the old content creators never did it for any type of incentive besides bringing new players in

and it worked it brought an entire generation of players into the game lol

funnily enough there is an incentive to be staff since you could gain points from hosting shit or doing whatever miscellaneous staff stuff and redeem color packs/items that you could sell or random forum crap or tc
honestly I believe player retention is linked massively with the current tutorials in the game and one big step in improving how long people stick around is getting some more advanced tutorials implimented into the game. The current tutorials are fine for the absolute novice to learn how to do the very basics but beyond that there isn't really any decent in-game tutorials that show the player how to actually use those controls in an effective way and they are sort of just thrown in the deep end, and that means that if they don't manage to find their way to the forums or the discord it's going to be incredibly challenging to play the game especially when a lot of the recurring players are much better at the game.

If we can get the community to become inspired to create tutorials then it would really help the new players that are coming in to get more of a feel for what they are capable of achieving within the game and keep them interested for longer

The game itself is worth it imo. There's a reason that we still have a dedicated playerbase of nearly 100 people daily on a game that's nearing 20 years old. New content is being made on the game all the time, so why wouldn't this passionate group of people want to show it off? Hell, a lot of people playing are REPLAYMAKERS. I think spending hours on a replay is reason enough to want to get people to watch it.

Anyways, I see that you want this thread to be a pivotal moment in Toribash history where we come up with a brand new detailed plan to save this game. I'll entertain this a little bit.

I think one big hurdle here is the size of the playerbase and the size of staff. Even though it would be normal for other fighting games, it's laughable to suggest that we'd see Toribash meetups where people meet up in person to play Toribash together. We also won't see Nabi Studios hosting a booth at a game convention due to their lack of pretty much any physical presence. This is sad because I think Toribash could get more recognition in the fighting games community. If anyone wants to contact key members of other fighting games and get them into Toribash then I'd be truly happy to work with them and try to brainstorm specific plans that way.

Unlike meetups, I think getting a booth at a fighting game convention is actually a really good goal for Toribash. We'd be able to show people firsthand what the game is like, talking directly to the kinds of people who would be interested in such a game. I think many people would even recognize Toribash and be shocked to see that it's still around and the kinds of new stuff we've been doing. The catch is that this booth likely has to be owned by an org rather than Nabi itself. The main hurdle there is finding people with the money, resources, and dedication to set up such a thing. This would not be efficient marketing, but I think it's just a really fun idea tbh and it's maybeee achievable. I'm not sure how the logistics work though.

Also, can you elaborate on how TC would be used as an incentive for advertising? Are you suggesting Nabi pay people with ingame currency to make videos on Toribash?

There's a post on here that says they'd be paying people they put on the socials and then I think they just didnt? LOL

something that makes it worth while to go out of your way to post about toribash. but without costing the game itself anything(essentially)

i have seen this concept in other games and it seems a pretty popular way to make in game currency and it and is usually exploited to its fullest, which in this case cannot be a bad idea seeing as all its doing is A; supporting the current community payer and B; advertises toribash.

i don't see a downside to this idea, although i don't have any specifics on it. im hoping yall might have some input.

Outside of me joining staff in November officially as an Event Squad Member, to now currently the 28th of March 2025, I have pretty much given away items and tc like spilling water on the road, not just orc grips or something like that, I've given away rare item sets and 3d objects, custom made objects, expensive color packs, constant 512 body and joint packs, and have done TC donations (as of recent I donated 10kk+ TC to the TMA org in Toribash to assist funding the events they host), a gigantic amount of items to events like Endurance onslaught and even something like a 2024x1024 head texture object that I basically wore 24/7 since I owned it, from my yearly update (I came back to the game on September 4th 2024 so approximately 3 months worth of data I accumulated 30kk+ tc just by trading and buying since I never really duel or win any events) and pretty much gave away most if not all of it, amplified when I became a staff member because I had a way to sponsor my own events and give away things to players for contributing to the game like my 4 hour shootboxing etourney where the prize was a full unpacked Tier X pack for the first 10 winners of round 1, and round 2 was just a bunch of TC and other items I had when I ran out of color packs.

NOBODY told me to do this, I was not FORCED to do this, nor was I pressured to do it for any favoritism or even to get on anyone's good side. ME alone just wanted to have fun with a game I begged my parents to get me when it was still paid for, amazed to see it free one-day during christmas one year and got it, cried my ass off plenty of times because I had no idea what to do, was fspec'd by my clan leader Viamere at the time cause I was flopping around thinking I was the best player to exist because I wasn't on the floor constantly while my friend Dankineer, Illuminati, Pueblo, some people from WAR and Mystic I forget their usernames, all played wushu and mushu had fun teaching me the game and giving me things as well.

I have gotten so much feedback from the players I associate with, and others whom care about what I do, and since I came back in september, I have learned sparring, mma, modmaking, replaymaking, and tricking because other spheres of this game caught my eye but I NEVER MADE THE CHOICE to even try until now, and I am enjoying many parts of the game I never even thought I would enjoy.

I would love to give away a bajillion TC and Items like this is the king of iron fist tournament, I would absolutely love to give away custom items and rare sets like candy (basically already have), but from my understanding so far, I don't think doing this constantly, even whilst giving everything away to veteran players, new players, duelers, shop owners, twitch streamers for Toribash I constantly donated 50$usd to for bits and subs, will necessarily heal the game in any form, all the items in this game can be easily deleted and the whole game can be gone just as much as it arrived, but the players that have played the game, created fun times and memories, will ALWAYS exist in time, even if it isn't brought up or mentioned 24/7, there are people who have founded their life and aspirations off playing this game, even if they don't play the game anymore, they still know the TIMES they had and not the ITEMS themselves but maybe the way they obtained them.

With the current amount of people who play the game right now, there's still LOADSSSSSSS of stuff that can still happen, we as a community can still shine like a radiated ocean in fallout, even if not everyone has the time to do so, you can still try and attempt at least SOMETHING, not to expect anything for it, not to think you will become legend status by posting your heli kick that destroyed yonker in a boxshu match or for tapping out a TMA ATFC champion who over-extended, or that someone randomly like me, will bless you with a vat of items you dream of having, but to GENERATEEEE your own fun, your own memories, become your OWN MF legend.

I was happy when I learned mma. - I did it to connect with more players.

I happy when I learned tricking/replaymaking/sparring. - I did it to understand more players.

I happy when I learned modmaking/3D modeling/ATMO development. - I did it to impress myself and check my opinions on the game.

I happy when I became a staff member. - I wanted to show a community that someone cares, like a belly flop on still water. RIP SWOSH NEVA FORGET MY NUMBA 1 SUPPORTER.

I happy when my etourneys happened and someone did an insane outplay and actually beat the ones they were nervous of losing to, and the whole chat started typing like it was the Daigo Vs Justin evo match for street fighter where Daigo parried Justin perfectly and won a game at a playstate where people thought it was IMPOSSIBLE to come back from.

TLDR; I have given away an insane amount of TC and ITEMS to players who never thought at the time they would ever obtain such a thing within the game, because memories are more important to me than whatever I have in my inventory, when the time came, it just felt right.

I learned a bunch of parts of the game that other players already learned and became great in, long before I touched them, because I wanted to make sure if my opinions on the game were bs, and to connect with other players because I really wanted to understand the history of the game and who cared before I did.

Before I started caring, I didn't talk to a lot of players, I had maybe 4 people I played the game with constantly and they tried to get me to do things like this ALLLL the time and I was like "waaa no I am bad waa omg it's too hard" and I had that opportunity to play with people I thought were like torigods, I didn't take them then.

Because I care now, I talk to dozens of players almost daily, I am in VC's almost daily if not all night till like 2-3 AM, while being a college student and working part time, I play singleplayer in mods I never even thought I'd be able to autopilot in, I too, even as a staff member, shitpost other players in discord and in game and meme with people because in that moment, it gets rid of the veil that im some omnipotent monkey that stole melroses es arm-band and started hosting like planet of the toris.

I have seen more retention by making memories with people and engaging with them than I have seen giving away items and tc.

Blindfight exists, and has been doing that, I got into an debate with someone because I am prestige 7 now and I keep nerfing my speed and nothing else because I wanna see how slow I can play before I just infinitely lose.

etourneys and WEEKENDBASH MFFFFF have been like this for me as well, even if it's not me hosting and im just watching.

Tori darkage doesn't exist, you just need to see where the sun shines and where the shadows are casted, and find the goodness on both ends, and ask yourself, how do I have fun?

Most people who I saw get introduced to the game personally didn't even know what to do at first, like Neo being introduced to the construct and training with Morpheus.

Even if you think you are the most annoying mf in the world (me), you might not be as knowledgeable as other players in their respective spheres, or in a moment where an observation of yours might be important for whatever is going on (literally this entire thread) and you want to share EVEN IF YOU MAY BE RIGHT OR WRONG, I encourage you to at-least take some kind of action like anyone is doing now, just like dyingderp said, post a youtube video or two, post in the #replays chat in the Toribash server, post in your clan server and liven up the mood even if it's for a day or two.

Toribash is all just 1's and 0's, it can't care for itself. Sir and other staff members are like the pokemon center you bring your pokemon to when you forced them to fight a level 40 raikou and you only have great balls trying to catch it and them mfs keep dying because they are only level 20 at most.

YOU are Toribash. I am Tori or Uke or Nagi or any of the other tori's that spawn in game, just like you are at any given time. You know when you play jesuscopter.tbm and you end up being the one having to leap to your friend and you are in that moment questioning if you can make the grab and fly off with your friend? Even in a simple moment like that, attempt that grab mf at all costs.

As much as I have engaged with others in a great way, I have also upset some people along the way.

As much as I have learned and done new things for the better, I made mistakes before I could be right in the next situation it called for.

People want the game to be malleable in some way, but are you prepared to be malleable, not for the game, but for yourself?

This a game you know. That kind of statement DOES NOT IN ANY WORLD have to be taken as a negative thing. People can find enjoyment in a game, especially in Toribash, I nominated this game for steam awards as "The Best Game You're Bad At" because in the end, I'm still having fun even if I still might be using my toes to do a backflip and a nearby tricker ends up getting a neck fracture from staring at me.

Lack of ideas isn't the problem imo, it's a lack of input, and I don't mean raising pitchforks immediately at identifiable players like staff or professionals at certain playstyles or mod types and exhaust them with everything you've ever wanted to say to them or about the game. There truly are some people who can never play this game again and told me some amazing things they thought about the game good AND bad, that they never had the strength to express, and NO, I am not talking about people who are banned from the game.

(Damn mf how much are you going to type RELAXXX) TLDR; Just have fun man, Xioi still plays for 20 minutes when they can, Killer3366 still has fun in mushu when they have time, Ern still had a blast playing tk with me for almost 2 hours when they had time, ishi conversed in #Toribash briefly a couple months ago and people enjoyed that too. You just need to believe in yourself and engage with others. ASK FOR HELP TOO MF. WE ARE A COMMUNITY. PvP doesn't have to be enabled 24/7 in your mind.

Wherever you are in the world, at this very moment reading these words I am typing out right now, thinking whatever you are thinking every time your eyes scan over what I'm typing, If there's one thing you will read from this post it's simply this: Leave that lobby you're in where you're questioning if you should try making a mod, or attempting a parkour. Signout of your league of legends client and do that trick or play the mod you won't stop thinking about. Are you bored in FL studio or have Blender open but tik-tok scrolling because you forgot what you were seeking help on? CLOSE THAT SHIT and draft a plan on your first youtube video for the game.

Are you a programmer, and have always questioned if you could have your dream script in Toribash but never tried making it? https://github.com/blahnumbers - Toribash Repository right there for you. #scripts in Toribash chat, tons of pinned information and history of other players wanting to attempt the same thing with loads of conversations for you to read over or @ someone about.

(TLDR TLDR TLDR Does this mf even know that that means?)

I too, am bothered by xyzw and artemisa 5000 times a day because they want to play or give me the worlds best roast.

Do they give up? NEVER.

Do I want them to? NEVER.

Will I play with them? NEVE-Yes I have plenty already.

NEVER. GIVE. UP. TOO. EASILY. - Szaszuniya.

I forgot what I was originally gonna talk about...

fuck the nonchalance of 'lol not reading that', that's not productive or constructive towards making the game live on

we actually do need the passion that Szaszuniya displayed when typing an encyclopedia of why he cares if we want this game to last a little longer after it's already given so much
