Ranking changes
I'm updating our ranking system. Rankings will reset every month and only some servers will have ranking enabled on them.

Whats new from today:
- Only selected servers will be ranked. "This is a ranked server")
- Before ranked matches you'll get a message. "This is a ranked match (#rank vs #rank)"
- I've enabled ranking on the tourney1-8 servers. Admins can put ranking on any server they please.

Whats coming:
- On the 1st of August I'll clear the current rankings. Yes, all rankings will reset.

On the last of the month will be able to have special events for the best players of that month.

This is still in development so if you have any suggestions feel free to post in this thread.

I'm sorry but this is pretty bullshit in my opinion.

I have to say that the modcycle servers are nice, but i kinda agree with this.
Last time i played most of the ranked rooms were empty, i think the only active server was the grappling one.
But i guess we'll have to wait until matchmaking.

Not what I mean, I play most mods, I said that out of confusion and annoyance as i'm fed up of so many changes happening unexpectedly.
Basically, I don't understand how this tourney change/elo mod rank change thing will actually benefit considering it has so many downparts as well as the up parts. I've already had a talk with moop inside one of the ranked rooms but i still see issues to do with this stuff.
Sorry for that rash comment but for some reason I just don't think it'll go as well as you guys have planned, but that's my personal preference.
I hope this does go as well as you guys plan.
If it doesn't go as well as we've planned then we'll adapt and change, don't worry about that.
We're more than happy to see how it works and make changes. I'm currently bugging hampa for some more tools to monitor it :O

Yeah, I only don't like erthtkv2 because of the mod's name. Make it "tkv2," and the mod will instantly become more popular. This is a valid reason as the name of the mod is still an important feature that no one seems to have yet discussed.
Well tbf as it currently stands, it broke. I havent been able to play almost a single ranked game in 2 days in a category id like. Ive managed to play 2 games which were in a category I dont like much. All of the servers are sitting pretty much empty. I don't think the forced mod categories work to begin with.

I feel like people, including myself are starting lose interest/faith in this project. Then again it could just be me.
I get that you guys are working hard on improving this system and I appreciate that tremendously. But I also feel like you are working on this just because people wanted a proper ranking system, not because you feel that proper competitive infra for top players is essential for the game.

I dont think there is a single person in the GM team who is geared towards the competitive side of TB (or cares about it deeply), and it's starting to show. You have implemented great ideas, like the ELO restricted rooms but then implemented new "unwanted" ideas out of the blue like forced mod categorizing with new mods. Pretty much everyone IIRC in this thread and other similar ones have agreed that mixed mods (from every "category") are essential for proper rankings. Instead of listening to them you add mods like deltabox, just because you feel like it. Deltabox is a manifestation of the bigger problem. The problem that some of these ideas are implemented without proper discussion, thought or knowledge.

The question is whether we have enough active players for that, especially amongst the higher ranks (which are the ones which will matter)
PM me with any and all questions

Please no.

If you want to be rank #1 in Toribash, you should be great at Toribash.

This game isn't called "Aikido Bash" or "Judo Bash" or "Wushu Bash". Do you like aikido, judo, or wushu? Great- there are lobbies for you to play people of similar belts or publicly in the mod you desire. You can even make your own server or hell your own tournament to play the mod you desire.

If you want matchmaking to accurately depict who the best Toribash player is, make the people play the damn game. You make this a "choose what you're good at" deal and all you'll get is TK players spending 3 years in queue waiting to gain 2 ELO after long and enduring matches while shovels farm massive ELO in minutes. The average game length of a mod shouldn't be what determines how high rank you are. And there won't be a reason to spend 6 minutes playing one match of stabjutsu_fixed, even if you can maintain a 90% win rate against beast players, when in the same time you could beat 4 players and lose once maintaining an 80% win rate shoveling in aikido, greykido, smallboxreadytoliftlikearocketship kido.tbm

As I stated earlier: the improvements made in the last week are awesome, and I'm super appreciative. But it's a bandaid. Real matchmaking with a small list of the most competitive mods in Toribash, played in a series (best of 5), where you either randomly play any of the mods or play a random distribution of the mods is how a decent indicator of skill could be created.

Little side tangent

P.S.: Any word on when that end of month tournament will be and what rank will be required to play in it? What about the mod(s) that it'll be in?

The ranked servers don't seem to work, no one is playing. It may be because the rank reset is coming soon and people gave up on their ranks.
Let's see how it goes this next month

but really i feel like we need more people for all this bunch of servers
